About

I created this website to highlight what I am working on, share things I have learned, and to serve as a testament to the type of Internet I believe in—that is, a slower, simpler collection of sites written and hosted by people for the purpose of sharing useful information. It can be entertaining, and I do not see why it cannot build atop existing friendships. But as an omnipresent dopamine drip and parasocial relationship protocol, the Internet creates more problems than it is worth. My solution is to simply revert back to an older format, which is now easier than ever with HTML 5, user-friendly VPS services, and static site generators.

In short, I believe that the Internet should be a reference tool for facilitating life in the real world, and never the other way around.

As to what I do in the real world, when I am not working my day job or running around after my children, my passions include homesteading, tinkering, and writing fiction. My first novel, whose working title is The Last Bishop, is now in the editing stage.

Thank you for visiting, and I wish you the best with your own passion projects and web 1.0-style sites.

FAQs

What is the background? It's a detail of one of Charles Babbage's original schematics for his "Difference Engine." I love the idea of computing with real, physical weights, cams, and gears. See Aesthetic Mechanica for more details.

What is the logo/favicon? It's a theodolite. I chose this because they were once one of those brass and glass instruments that were both useful and beautiful, a coalescence of science and craftsmanship. I also like the symbolism in them as tools for surveying the landscape to then build upon.

When is the novel coming out? As soon as I stop tinkering with this website and finish editing the thing.

Where is your professional information? For anything related to hobbies or musings, please email me. For anything work related, look me up on that website that rhymes with "Sinked Bin."

If a project is "archived" on your page, is it done? For build projects, it means I made the thing and am likely still using it. For "journeys" like my foray into analog photography, it means that I've explored the topic, and now I dabble when I like. If I have major updates, I'll move the post back into "active" and provide new info with the date at the bottom.
